Hmmm... Many many Events

Hmmm...

Seems like a very very long time since the last post… Did mention that more interesting things would be posted up but well… Apparently there’s too much assignments and tests due soon after… Oh well…

On to the more interesting stuff that have been doing since getting here to Brisbane… There were a lot of things and events that came up here in Brisbane after Sg’s National Day, stuff like the Races Day, Ekka Day and the Riverfire exhibition. The Races day was basically, as its name suggests Horse-Racing day where most of the youth population of Brisbane would end up on the race grounds half drunk or betting on horses... Well, the reason why I was there was because earlier on I was at this food and wine appreciation club thing that was held near by. Scones, cakes and tea were delicious!! =) Nothing much about the horse racing bits cos couldn’t make any head nor tail out of it (Pun intended). But saw, probably for the first time in my life, the vast and wide array of hats!! Purple feathered ones, red, all colours of the rainbow and different shapes and sizes… Mind-boggling as it was, it could not take away the idea that the Aussie people here just love to go drunk like in the afternoon when there’s still night time… Hordes of people lying on the ground inebriated by the drinks they had. On the brighter side of things, got to know 2 French girls who share the same class as me in Organisational Behaviour. Interesting conversation it was that ensued. On one side, English spoken rapidly with a slight bit of Singaporean accent in it and on the other side English spoken with a thick French accent… The confusion and the need to slow down a little that followed was quite hilarious. =)

The next event that occurred was the Ekka Day. People here have a day or a week to gather together and go like “Hey, how’s the cows this year?” “Hey mate, there are discounts on the power saw we wanted,” that sorta thing. Interestingly though I saw what I always liked. Beef... Lots of beef in the form of Cows… It was like this huge 1 ton ++ animal that was staring at me with brown eyes knowing that one day I’ll be eating them.. Yum.. Saw calves there too… Heh.. Encouraged it to eat more, fatten itself up and I’ll go looking for it in the future. =) Cruel? Maybe, but God placed these creatures on this Earth not for entertainment but to provide food for us. There were all sorts of stunts and action, e.g. human cannonball, ute racing, horses thinking that they are dogs and such occurring, with a small scale fireworks display at the end.

After these two events was the Riverfire display. Hmmm the river is NOT on fire but it was having a massive 30 odd minutes worth of fireworks display there. Think it made up slightly for the missing of National Day this year. But still, it’s always nice to be with family. The Aussies did 2 things that probably would not have been done back in Singapore. They flew a fighter-bomber at high speed on afterburners creating that plume of flame behind it that signaled the start of the festivities followed by the fireworks display. Just when everyone thought it couldn’t get any better, the bridge burst into a fireworks display of its own. As all fireworks would be, there always has to be a finale. And this one didn’t disappoint all. =)

Wednesday after that was part II of the fireworks but on a smaller and more private scale. There was a private function that was held by major corporations around Brisbane that organized the event with circus acts and India dancers to follow and of all things, a lion dance in Brisbane. Heh... Can’t escape these things even on Westernised soil. =)

Nothing much happened after these events just more of a catch up time on my work and assignments and stuff. Going to be really stressed out soon from the exams coming up but by the grace of God who gives me strength He shall see me through.
